View Full Version : Transfers between Prisons - Tucker Max
My fiance just got picked up Tuesday from Pulaski County Jail and went straight to Tucker Max. So hearing that I still have to visit him behind glass is disappointing to say the least. I was under the impression they went through Diagnostic in Pine Bluff first, though. Was I wrong in that assumption? And whatis Tucker Max exactly? Is it for certain offenders or certain programs? Or just yet another prison to put people into?
juliwaits 01-23-2005, 04:22 AM KNT - I also thought everyone went to diagnostics first, but maybe the Max does their own diagnostics. No, Tucker Max is not a program prison (Tucker is), and it's not just another prison. It's a maximum security prison. Hopefully you know how to access the ADC inmate search, and you can see the types of crimes people commit to get to max.
Let me know if I can help.
crisnclay 01-26-2005, 08:05 PM The reason you fiance went to Tucker Max was because they were trying to move recieving faster. They were actually running 2 recievings, one at the Diagnostic Unit and one at Tucker Max. My husband works in recieving at the Diagnostic Unit and had to go over to Tucker Max to set things up there so they could clear out Pulaski County. Your fiance shouldnt be there more than a week or 2. The reason they did all of this was so they could ask for more money to build more prisons. They had a lot of bed space to fill and they couldnt very well ask for money if they had all this space and all these guys backed up in county jails. Anyway, Tucker Max is...I dont even know how to say this...I had to visit my husband there one weekend and when I left I told him I would not be back. I love my husband very very much and I have stood by his side through all this time but there was no way I was going back to that unit. It was the nastiest place I have ever been to. We had a contact visit and werent even allowed to kiss eachother. They locked us and 5 other inmates in a room. We (the FREE people) had to ask to be let out to go to the bathroom or to get something to eat. I could go on for days about how nasty that place is and the way the guards act but Ill shut up for now. Let me end with this, if my husband ever has to go back, i wont be visiting. I hope your fiance gets out of there soon.....

My husband was sent to Tucker Max a week ago. I called there and they told me that he would only be there for a week. I am new at all this stuff and don't understand any of it. How do you find out where he will go from there? I haven't talked to him in over a week. When he is moved, does anyone know how the visitation goes or if there is a limit on how many calls he can make or letters he can write?
Thanks to anyone who can educate me on anything about prisons!!
juliwaits 01-29-2005, 09:26 AM IloveTony,
I moved your posts because i wanted to answer your questions, but y'all were posting on a thread that is for people who have specific information about a prison and want to post it there. Questions go in the general forum.
Transfers -- they will NOT tell you ahead of time where he is going, or when he is going. they consider that a security risk.
When he is moved, he will have to call you to tell you. The visitation list will go with him wherever he goes.
If i understand your next question correctly, you are wondering about restrictions on his calls, visits, and letters once he's moved. There will be no restrictions to calls or letters. Visits depend on class. Class 1 can have visits every week. Everyone else can have visits every week except the 5th weekend of the month (this only happens about 2-3 times a year).
hope this helps

I will tell you what I did when Clayton was at Tucker Max. My husband has been in prison for 8 years and I still worry. I found myself more worried about him at Tucker Max than any other unit hes ever been at so I decided to register on the Vine phone number. I couldnt wait on him to call me and let me know he was back safe at the Diagnostic Unit. When he was transfered back I got a phone call on my cell phone at 11:58, it was the vine thing telling me he was back at the Diagnostic Unit. When I seen him Sunday I told him what I did and what time I got the call, he said that that was the same time he got to the Unit. Most people use the ADC web site to find their loved ones but they take days before they update the site, the Vine thing tells you right then. So as for you wanting to know where your husband is going to be transfered to the best thing for you to do is register on the Vine Program, you can find the number on the ADC web site, it wont tell you where he is GOING to be sent but it will call you when he is AT the Unit hes is going to. Hope this helps
crisnclay 01-29-2005, 09:57 AM Sorry, I missed one of your questions. Im assuming your husband is a new commitment (first time in prison) if so, you cant visit for 30 days. He can still call you but he is not supposed to have any visits for 30 days. He will have to put in a calling list with the numbers on it that he wants to call, it all depends on the people doing that as for how long it takes to get the list up and ready, once he puts in his calling list and its approved he can call you as much as he wants to but let me warn you, the calls are 6.60 for 15 minutes if you live in Arkansas and before you know it you can rack up a very large bill. so be careful.....

juliwaits 01-29-2005, 10:18 AM Chrisnclay - thanks for the VINE info.
I do want to clarify, that in other ADC prisons (not tucker max) you CAN visit for the first 30 days. in fact, the first 30 days is most lenient because you don't have to even be on the visitation list as long as you are immediate family.
Also, calls from ADC to another state are even worse!! When my husband first went in, we lived in texas. His calls home were $21 for 15 minutes. So $6.60 still seems like a bargain! We limit his calling home to once a week.
crisnclay 01-29-2005, 11:12 AM Hey juliewaits...what I was talking about the visiting was when you are first sent to the Diagnostic Unit as a new commitment you can not visit there. Once you are shipped to your parent unit I dont know what happens but while you are at the Diagnostic Unit waiting you can not visit. I guess I wasnt very clear, sorry

Hi
My husband is at Tucker Max and part of the reason that there is no contact visits (even though) the inmate is on the level that they can get them, is because "they say" they are under staffed... and yes, 25 a day have been being processed to show that the ADC needs more buildings, Build and THEY will Fill!
What is this VINE thing?
see ya'll

Jade01 01-31-2005, 05:01 PM The VINE program is a free service that is for crime victims, and it will call you and tell you if the inmate you register for is released, transferred, or has escaped. But anyone can register for it, and I totally recommend it. I registered Hunter around the time that he could be transferred to the 309 program any day and it called me within an hour or two of him being transferred. So, I knew he was transferred before he even was able to call.
