Hello everyone! I have only posted in this forum once and that was to do an introduction. I plan on posting a lot more now. My brother in law was just recently sentenced on Monday to 11 yrs. I haven't exactly reacted to this yet. He is a great person, though I have some hurt feelings towards him. I love him as though he were my own brother.
I want to spend more time in this forum and get to know everyone else who has extended family in prison. I am hoping you guys can be here for me to accept what is happening to him. And possibly help me with what I am feeling towards him.

My bro in law has been locked up for 2 years. He was suppose to go to court on Feb. 14th, but he waited all day, and they never called his name. They offered him a plea, but he won't take it becase he didn't do it...LONG story. Anyway, this is his 3rd time for being locked up. Hopefully he is a good boy when he gets out...lol Good luck! You can send me a message if you want...I am on here a lot.

Hello to all extended family members of an inmate. I was happy to come across this thread because I felt a bit guilty for coming on this site. I felt that way because so many spouses post here, and they are all so brave and wonderful, and I feel somewhat guilty for feeling sorry for myself, my husband and son, for my brother-in-law's temporary exit from our lives. He and I correspond at least three times a week, and although I feel no financial and social hardships as spouses do when a mate is locked up, I still feel many emotions of sadness over this.
Best of luck to you all, and if anyone would like, send me a pm. I would love to hear some of your stories.

Welcome Campbell.... yes you would be surprised how hurt you can actually feel even when it's not a spouse. I did have a spouse in right before his brother was sentenced he was released...but family is family and PTO is a site for everyone:)
Oh gosh, Campbell, I have a cousin in prison, and I just feel so exasperated with him! His mom died last year and we are the only family he has left. Three times in prison, all drug related...and there he sits, a man nearly 50 years old. You would think he would learn? But then again, I love him and we are his only family, so what can we do? Yes, we will have to stand by him and try to have him Interstate Compacted here to us in a different state, and GEESH,I just get so mad/sad/sorry for him, the big lug!
Anyway, I think we all feel so many emotions even if it's not a spouse of child incarcerated...
Welcome to the forum!

Hello everyone, I too have a brother in law that is in the system. And though he is my husbands brother we are very close and I do feel it like as if we were actually siblings. I may not feel it as a spouse but he does not have many people that is able to be there for him especially financially. His wife is out of work and he counts on his brother(my husband) and for help. So it is possible for an extended family member to feel the time as well.
