I wonder if the most systems will allow you to order from internet companies vitamins and herbals for inmates.

They would be sealed in tamper proof bottles directly from the company.

Has anyone done this?
thanks

Torrey,I have thought about this too. I worry (since I'm a worry wart) about him not eating healthy etc. He told me they would never go for it because it could become contraban. They could sell it etc. They would also then be able to get stuff that could be mind altering like effedrine etc. So from what I got the answer here is no. They do however sell vitamins at commisarry. Give it a try where you

I have wondered about this also..... Butch has put on 75 lbs since he has been incarcerated due to his diet.... He tries to get protein by eating sardines and other junk from the machines..... He has absolutely no vitamins at all. The food they feed them is not healthy at all... The do get a lot of soy bean stuff but no fresh vegies or things of that nature..... A whole lot of fat.... Wonder what we can do about this?

Richard has advanced Cirrhosis. Bad enough they wanted his next of kin's phone number just in cae he passed away in his sleep.
He is not suppose to have fat in his diet or spicey foods. He said they serve Chili every night. They put it on everything.

I am a student of Alchemy and an Herbalist. There are several alternative treatments that involve diet and herbal/vitamins remedies. There are studies that there are corrective herbs.

I wish I could help him since he can't get medical care there.
It would be so nice to bring them fresh fruit and vegetables. I have a garden that I end up throwing so much away. So sad there is the fear of contraband being smuggled in that people who want to help can't.

I know how you feel. My nagging has gotten him to start drinking milk. He told me that they never have fresh veggies and only once in a blue moon do the get fruit and it is usually dry oranges. I made him promise he'd eat them anyway. I wish I could bring some fruit to him, that would make me soooooooo happy!
In NY you can have BBQ and bring the meat and fruit, any thing you want on cook out days. But since I'm not in NY there is not much I can do to change it.
As for the herbal remedies, I believe in them too. I wish I had a suggestion how you could get them to him.

>>>I have a garden that I end up throwing so much away<<<

I gave up on that a few years ago. It just didn't seem worth the effort for just one person to me. When I lived in Alaska we had 1/3 ac of a garden, hot house, raised chickens, ducks and rabbits. But, there were 6 people, 4 dogs and 7 cats to feed too. :-)

I would also like to find out. I found out there's something wrong with Darrell's kidneys (he found out when he wanted to donate one to his mom).So I'm always telling him to drink enough water (very important for the kidneys). I even went so far to actually explain to him how much it hurts when he'd get kidney stones and have to pee them out....guess it helped. But since he never goes outside (last time he went outside to get fresh air was over 6 months ago) and he doesn't really get proper nor healty food, I'm very worried that he has a lack of vitamins. Don't want my baby sick if I can't be there to take care of him, you know?

Soraya....my daughter has had kidney problems since she was a baby. She was on daily antibiotics for 5 years. She has now gotten better some, but still have her episodes. This is what we were told that could help her. Sodas are a "no, no". The more sodas you drink, the harder it is on the kidney's. Limit the soda's. (Pepsi, Coke, etc.) Drink lots of Cranberry Juice and do not take baths.

Now, I know with your baby in prison, some of this may be hard to do. Just thought though I would pass on my knowledge of kidney problems.

thanks a lot Joy. I learned at school what no-no's there are for kidneys, if you have a problem with 'em or not. I think it's in the family because his mom got a kidney problem too. that's why he wanted to donate one of his. I don't worry about baths...he's hardly ever allowed to take a shower! No Coke's nor Pepsi's...only soda he gets is Koolaid power to solve in water...and water that's all he has....but if you have more information, I'd love to hear it!!
