This is the concensus report on how Hep C is SUPPOSED to be treated.
If I had my way, this would be sent to EVERY prison warden in the coutnry, with a letter asking "How does YOUR prison mesure up, in providing THIS standard of care, for your Hep C inmates?"
I'd be curious if any of them answered such a letter!

Not sure how, but I'm THINKING about it.
And once I get thinking and make a decision,,, Well, certain people here can tell you IT WILL HAPPEN!
I guess I put this up, so that INDIVIDUAL's here, who are having problems getting their loved ones Hep C attended to in prison; THEY can print it off and ask the warden in question!

Menolly,
Just a thought... Will the Warden care? I believe that they are part of the system that does not care. I am not saying that there are not individual Wardens out there that would care, but they are already fighting their budget deficits and have no room for more expense.
The Government - state and federal - is where this needs to go. They need to understand the implication that this disease is going to have on free society when these infected Prisoners come home.
I think that a well planned campaign of making the state and fed government bodies aware of this situation would have a stronger impact???
Thoughts???

I have a petetion on the board for those of you that live in Ohio to go to the Medical Director of our state prisons to test every prisoner that enters our system just like they do for HIV and TB...they do treat here in Ohio but I can't seem to found out any other info...the state health dept say they have the numbers but can't (won't) give them out until they have them all recorded in their data bank....I am going to try to call each and every prison to see how many are actually getting treatment...which is of course the old interferon combo but it is better than nothing......but we need to get them tested upon entry for sure!!
by the way I start my treatment Friday...need prayers please

Menolly,
I give you a big thumbs up. You have given me so much information. I have gotten on the internet and went to the Yahoo search and haven't found nowhere near as much needed and interesting information as you post on here. I have not been coming to this site very long and I wish I would have found it a long time ago. I use to try to get on the Yahoo chat rooms that was supposed to be about prisons, but all you get are a bunch of young kids that want to play. Or perverts and I sure don't have time for none of them. You are doing a very good job at holding up your late husbands wishes. I wish you and your kids the very best in life.
The reason I'm on here looking for info. is my best friend is incarcerated. He has been locked up for 22 1/2 years. He started having bad stomach pains back in Sept. 02. Everytime he would go to see the nurse, it was always the same thing. Give him some pills and some Pepto Bismol and send him on his way. He finally got sent to a custody review in Feb. 02 and while he was there, they have a hospital staff, they done some test. Found out he has a cancerous tumor on the head of his pancerous. They sent his to an outside hospital to do surgery, but it was unsuccessful due to the veins and intestines wrapped around the tumor. So they had to close him back up. This was the second week of March. I got a letter from him on 4-7 and he hadn't went back to the surgeon to set up his Radiation treatments yet. But before all of this happened they had checked his for Hep. a couple of times, it kept coming back neg. I talked to his mom on the phone on March 28th and she told me they tested him for Hep. again and this time he tested Pos. for Hep. C. This really frustrates me, because when I got my letter last week he said they don't seemed to be worried about it and they aren't treating him. Plus he said he doesn't know how he got it, so I feel like he got it from them. They had to give him blood a couple of times. He also told me that the prison hospital was very nasty and stunk so bad. I've got him lots if info. and I'm going to mail it to him so he can read up on it. Here we are, trying to get him well from the cancer and now we are going to have to worry about the Hep. C if they don't treat him. He comes up for another parole review in Oct. 03 so we are praying and hoping that they let him out this time due to his illness. At least that way he can get the treatment that he deserves. Keep up the good work. May God Bless Everyone On Here And Their Loved Ones.
