Pretoria - Police were apologetic when they accidentally released the suspect being held for the murder of a woman's husband. "Ma'am, it's just one of those things. We'll just have to see if we can find him again." (My comment - oh right - he is just going to hang around to get caught is he???)
This was what Elsabé Liebenberg, 55, of Centurion was told when 22-year-old David Tshabalala failed to appear in Pretoria magistrate's court on Tuesday in connection with the murder of Pieter Liebenberg. The outraged Liebenberg said the suspect initially could not be found in Diepkloof Prison before his first court appearance.
"I am extremely upset! How can this happen? The only thing (assistant commander Abri) Burger said was: 'It is one of those things, Ma'am, I don't know what else to say'," she said. Liebenberg turned to Beeld when the investigation into her husband's murder seemingly made no progress.
Appeared on firearms charge, too
He was overpowered in his house in Wierdaburg on the morning of February 24 2004, tied up with electric cables in his garage and stabbed to death with a knife. Police sources told Beeld that Tshabalala appeared in the magistrate's court in Orlando, Soweto, recently on a charge of having an illegal firearm.
He received a suspended three-year sentence and was released without the court orderly taking note of the pending murder charge against him. Mrs Liebenberg said: "I struggled so much to get co-operation from the police back then.
"Now, the only suspect has disappeared! It's absurd! My husband of 31 years has been murdered. "When the suspect (in my husband's case) could not be found before his first court appearance, police told me there were 7 500 inmates in the prison and they couldn't keep track of all of them." (My comment - What??? they cant keep track of them - OMG)
