Hi there. I have a penpal in Raiford (florida) and in his last letter he asked me to go visit him. I have been writing to him awhile but I am a bit nervous of actually going in to see him. Does anyone have any information/advice on visits with DR inmates in Raiford. What should I expect? Is there a dress code or something.
I would appreciate any information at all before answering him. Thank you so much all.

Here is a URL with the FL DOC that gives you all the FAQ about visiting, I hope this helps.

I'm there most weekends, PM me if you have any specifics. Be sure to send your application to the Classificatons folks at UCI or FSP.
FSP, where I spend my weekends, does require closed toed shoes (the website doesn't say that!) and modest dress (bra and slip, no bare mid-drift or too low cut, sleeves are required).
It's a very bland place. Kinda beige. The barred doors/gates are frightening at first. And the drive into the middle of nowhere. The first visit you have to have your picture taken and get a little yellow card. The pat down isn't pleasant. Out there, the guards are polite. They escort you back to the ACVP and bring the guys down from G wing. It was scary waiting in that empty room or with strangers in the early days - who are these crazy people visiting DR guys. You will be nervous, that's normal.
There's a little canteen with snacks and sodas. DR can have pictures taken now.
It's more normal than you would think. Sitting around little tables having lunch.
Starke is the big town, not Raiford. There are several Motels and lots of fast food. COming from that far, check into a "special visit" to see him two days in a row.

Thank you so much all. :confused:I spent many years in raiford.I got out in 1982.I only got one visit while I was there.A visit would be great.First, you,ll be searched for contraband. You should be very careful while there.Raiford can be a tuff place to handle for outsiders. There is a main visiting park with tons of rules.I,d get those rules and read carefully before you decide to go.Under no condition let this guy talk you into breaking any rules. You,ll be delt with harshly. You will be stared at,yelled to,cat calls, etc. Depending on the inmate you see,you could be screwed with by admin. as well. Most times, the visit will go just fine, although it can be a very intimidating place.

Having visited in the DR's of Texas, Alabama and Florida - I think that FL is far and away the most relaxed atmsophere of a visiting room.
As long as you are co-operative, respectful and patient with the staff you will have no problems.
The small hoops that you have to jump through pale in comparison with the joy you will bring your friend!
Have a wonderful visit!
