ST. JOHN'S, Nfld. -- Prison officials in Newfoundland were expected to reassess on Monday the situation leading to a lockdown at a prison in St. John's last week.
Inmates at Her Majesty's Penitentiary have been under a lockdown since illegal drugs were discovered inside the prison.
Officials said some drugs were apparently hoisted over a prison wall by a rope made of bed sheets, while others were smuggled in by the prisoners themselves.
Four inmates were taken to hospital after being suspected of consuming drugs. They have since returned to their jail cells.
The drug matter has been turned over to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.
