Does anyone know how long the process takes from being sent out from LA County to a State Prison?
My man was sentenced to two year low term on December 16th, and its been four weeks since then.
I looked online on LASD.org today, and it says he is now at a SP4 (State Prison 4), yesterday he was at a SP. I guess there are different levels.
What does that mean? I know he is in processing but how long does that take (Especially with the lockdown)? When will I know where he is being sent to? And how soon can I see him?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi
Once the status goes to SP4 its usually an indication that the inmate is on the transport list. Based on our experience he should be moved within 10 days however, it will depend on where there is a space for him. There are a couple of places he could be sent, for example Chino or Delano. Check the CDC site and you will see where the reception instituions are.
Once he is moved he will not be able to call you until he is out of reception and classified. You will be able to find out where he is by calling CDC but they ususally don't show up in their computer for a couple of days. If you are lucky he will be able to get a call off to you before he rolls up.
You will need to apply for permission to see him at a CDC facility. At first it will be behind glass for a limited amount of time. In some institutions the inmate has to sign and send you the visitor form, others will accept the old form which does not require the inmates signature. There are lots of posts regarding visitor forms and visitation at CDC institutions. It seems that during the past few months the time in reception has been lengthening.
This can be one of the hardest times because there is very little opportunity for contact.
Good luck to you both.

When my son was SP4, I beleive it took him 2 weeks to be transferred. They did allow him to make a call before he left IR ( of course he called his girl friend! LOL) And once he was transferred the prison he went to was on the LACO website. So I was able to call the prison and get his housing info so I could write.
